I at the start of the year about how I wanted to start trying out new recipes. I’m a nightmare for cooking the same thing week in, week out, or always turning to the same old favourites when we have friends round (chicken and chorizo stew, you are the one!). One of my goals for 2015 was to try out a new recipe a week and then come back here and blog about them so that you too can eat all the yumminess. It’s forced me to switch it up a bit and as a result we have eaten some delicious stuff – smiles all round!
So here’s what I’ve been whipping up in the kitchen this month – apologies that the photos are a bit naff, I promise to use the proper camera rather than my iPhone this month!
I’m notoriously not that great at baking. I once made cookies (the most basic of baking attempts) with my old housemate and they merged together and formed one gigantic cookie that was burnt on the outside and soggy in the middle. Since then, I’ve stuck to easy peasy stuff (usually recipes that are labelled “great to make with kids!”), so when I saw this “fail-safe” recipe on Whip Until Fluffy I thought I’d give them a go. And I’m so glad I did! They were super easy and ridiculously delicious. Especially when still warm from the oven, mmmmmmmmm.
I don’t know about you, but this cold, dark weather makes me crave my 3 favourite C’s: carbs, chorizo and cheese. Cue this recipe – it’s quick and easy to rustle up (perfect for a midweek dinner), but really delivers on taste and comfort. Paired with a glass of wine and a blanket on the sofa, it is the perfect antidote to the winter blues.
We tend to be creatures of habit when it comes to weekend breakfasts and brunches – our go to faves are always croissants with jam or some sort of cooked brekkie with lots of bacon and sausage. I came across this recipe on Amy’s blog and thought it could be the perfect brunch to shake us out of our rut – and I wasn’t wrong! Full of flavour, easy to throw together and not too heavy. Yum!
My favourite meal of the week is without a doubt the Sunday roast. I love the house being of full of delicious roast meat smells and having a snooze on the couch with a full tummy always feels so indulgent after a busy week of running around. I usually tend to choose either chicken or lamb for our roasts so decided to switch up after stumbling across this recipe for pork belly. I served it with mash and broccoli and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was one of the TASTIEST things I have ever eaten. Just gonna have a little daydream about how good it was now…
What have you been cooking this month? Any ideas for my February recipes?
